Joie de Vivre

How is everyone doing so far this year?  Can't believe we are midway through the month of January!  I started this canvas yesterday and had a couple of ideas, not sure what I think about it.  One part of my brain is telling me to add more stamping and I just may do that, so what do you think and be honest with me.  The mixed media art is somewhat new to me, so I am truly open to suggestions!
Revised with a Little Help From my Friends!

First I painted up my canvas using PaperArtsy Fresco Finish paints, which my dear friend Brenda "Bumblebees and Butterflies" gifted me!  Thank you, Brenda!  I blended these, spayed some water and wiped off some color.  Added crackle and then a coat of a little more green and did some dry brushing with DecoArts Emperor Gold.  Did some stenciling with modeling paste using an older square template from the days of painting and Crafters Work Shop.  I did heat seat the paste, as I do love that raised effect!  These areas were highlighted in gold.  The canvas edges were highlighted with gold and the corner's embossed with Stampendous Aged Gold.  The sentiment was computer generated.  The Eiffel Tower is from Invoke and the background stamps from Tim Holtz.  I cut a piece of lace from a flea market find and embossed that in gold and then added touches of Fresco Paint to give a patina look.
This canvas will be linked to Unruly PaperArts RAQ2, "Joie de Vivre," Eclectic Paperie's "Get Altered - Using Canvas," and Simon Says Stamp and Show "Lace Love."

Really appreciate your stopping by for a visit and have a great day!

  1. Its looking good Terry, lots of lovely texture. Not sure if it needs something between the tower and the Vivre, maybe one of your beautiful roses. Hugs Annette x

  2. This is so fab, Terry! Great green and gold together, love the textures and the Eiffel tower. Maybe a bit of text but really it is perfect. Have your ears been burning today? I may have been with the lady in question today, no less!

  3. Incredible textures and colors - love the greens and golds. I think it is just a gorgeous base, but I probably would add another element or a small stamped panel to give it just a bit more finished look. I really want to get more into mixed media too, just not too sure how to make the leap. Thanks for the inspiration, Terry!

    Hugs,
    Linda

  4. Such wonderful colors and textures, Terry!

It does feel like it needs a something else, but I dunno know what--maybe what a rose like Netty suggested?

    Whatever, it's gorgeous already!

  5. It's a beautiful piece of art, perhaps the focal point needed to be larger, or more of it.I want to dabble more in the mixed media, too. Thanks for sharing!

  7. A really beautiful mixed media piece, great use of texture paste and like your idea of heating it to raise it, will try that one. If I was to suggest any change it would be to make the eiffel tower a bit larger but otherwise it is beautiful. Hugs, Anne x

  14. I'm personally thinking it's gorgeous! The color and texture is reminiscent of a prize pulled from the ocean floor.

Maybe however you would feel better if you added one sort of largish element?

  30. Beautiful colour combination and lovely texture.
I am undecided if it requires anything. If at all it should be quite subtle as you do not want the new element to overpower the beauty you have created here.

  37. I love the colours and the textures - think you are definitely on the right track. I think some text script or flourishes would help link the elements together but when you've made such a lovely thing you don't want to go OTT and ruin it! I should know ... my bin is chock full right now! x
